HOW This Aircraft FELL 30 000 Feet in Less Than 2.5min! | China Airlines 006

On the 19th of February 1985 a Boeing 747SP, China Airlines flight 006, was operated a scheduled passenger service between Taipei in Taiwan to Los Angeles in the United States.

After about 10 hours in flight, the number 4 engine started having issues and eventually failed. The way the pilots handled the engine failure led to a loss of control inflight event with disastrous consequences.

In this video I will tell you all about it. Stay tuned.

  1. I'd love to know why in planes they don't have a simple ball on a string in the cockpit hanging if all else fails it would show what pitch you were at and confirm controls like horizon are correct

  2. I have a question that is probably really dumb, but I'm just so curious:
Whenever I'm on a plane, I (and I assume everyone else on the plane) can feel when the plane initiates a turn, begins its descent, etc. How do pilots like this experience situational awareness problems? Even if clouds, wouldn't it be obvious to them that they can feel the plane descending, especially at such a rapid rate?
Again, sorry for the dumb question. I'm not a pilot, I just love these videos!!

  3. Countries who have no history of independent aircraft development and production, or have stolen it, produce pilots whose incompetence shines like the sun when an anomaly surfaces.

  4. I wonder if AR (Augmented Reality) could help pilots in situations like this where they've lost their bearings in cloud cover? I know you're meant to trust your instruments, but if the pilots could see an intuitive wireframe ground plane / horizon projected across the windscreen or using overlays (similar to a fighter pilot HUD) it might help them actually believe what they're seeing rather than reject it out of hand.

Also, I found it crazy that they didn't immediately divert to the nearest airport after nearly crashing the plane — loss of range from losing the engine is one thing, but as a general principle, surely you get a plane on the ground ASAP after having a major emergency and subjecting it to crazy forces.

  5. Fighter pilots are trained to a minimum of 7gs for 30 seconds, and they are using special suits that pump air into the pants part of it so blood doesnt pool up in the legs (away from the head)

5G continouus is enough to make most ordinary people pass out, btw.

  6. Warning lights should be turned on, what all needs to be done in each procedure so that it does not happen that the pilot forgets to open or close the pressure valve or similar.

  7. I'm a resident of the San Fransisco Bay Area and am familiar with this accident. The aircraft was not talking with Oakland Tower. They were talking with Oakland Center which is in Fremont and is actually roughly 1/3rd of the way from SJC to Oakland International. Its only called Oakland Center since Oakland International is the oldest of the three international airports in the San Francisco Bay Area.

  8. I like your description of creating a soul crushing G- force. I know this isn't a funny situation but it's a funny way of saying it.
