Impressive! Soaring Glory flies highest in the Betfair Hurdle for Jonjo O'Neill | Racing TV

A fine performance from Soaring Glory, as the novice strikes on handicap debut in the £125,000 Betfair Hurdle at Newbury.

A smart bumper horse with two victories from three starts in that sphere, Soaring Glory beat subsequent Grade 1 winner Bravemansgame in very smart style on hurdling debut at Chepstow back in October and registered his first victory since then by scooping this huge pot at Newbury under jockey Jonjo O’Neill Jnr for trainer Jonjo O’Neill Snr and owner Pat Hickey.

The six-year-old could now be a leading home challenger in the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, the first race on the opening day of the 2021 Cheltenham Festival.

“It was one of those plans that came together – it all went right,” said the winning trainer. “He jumped and travelled well. It’s easy to get into trouble in a race like that but everything fell into place.”

  1. For me this race has to produce the winner at Cheltenham . The first two home soaring glory + fifty ball . Electric pace start to finish no hiding place both horses traveled sweetly and quickened away. I'd be tempted to side with the winner but very tempting EW odds for fifty ball and both should figure . Forget about appreciate it won't win and shockingly priced .

  2. I backed Soaring Glory at 13-1 ante post. I've backed the same horse at 40-1 for the Supreme Novices at Cheltenham.

  3. Jonjo at it again. Soaring Glory was well-beaten in a bad novice hurdle at Ascot, but somehow wins one of the most competitive handicap races of the season??? Did the same thing with Cloth Cap in the Ladbrokes. Horse hadn't won a race in two years. Romped home at Newbury. Jonjo won so much money, he built a canteen for his stable staff and named it after Cloth Cap
